Calcaneal Apophysitis: Sever's Disease

Case Report: Ill defined hypointense signal in the calcaneal apophysis on T1 weighted images and hyperintesne signal on T2 weighted & STIR images. Achilles tendon is normal. These findings are indicative calacaneal apophysitis/sever's disease.  

Calcaneal apophysitis, also known as Sever’s disease or avascular necrosis of calcaneal epiphysis, is a commonly encountered entity amongst athletic children and is frequently undiagnosed. It is an inflammation caused by the traction of the achilles tendon on the unossified calcaneal apophysis.
