DaTscan: Parkinson's Disease

 DaTscan used to visualize dopamine degeneration in the nigro-striatum associated with Parkinsonian Syndrome. This uses 123I Ioflupane to bind to the DAT in the striatum and then SPECT visualizes the amount of transporter present. 

 Normal pattern is homogeneous symmetrical comma type pattern in the striatal nuclei.
